Galway Downs Temecula is one of the most beautiful wedding venues I've ever seen. It is a 240-acre equestrian facility in the heart of Temecula Valley Wine Country, offering a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces for weddings and events.

I am a wedding photographer based in SoCal who had my own wedding at Galway Downs Temecula, so I guess that goes to show how much I adore this venue. I'm including EVERYTHING you need to know in order to help you plan the best Galway Downs wedding day!

Crucial Info to Have a Stress Free Wedding at Galway Downs Temecula

Definitely Invest in a Day of Coordinator for this Specific Venue

My only regret is not investing in a day-of coordinator for my wedding at Galway Downs Temecula.

A full service wedding coordinator isn’t needed for this venue as they have staff and in house coordinators who handle the majority of the work leading up to the wedding day.

They also have an on site coordinator who is there from getting ready until the reception entrance, however this on site coordinator he leaves as soon as the reception starts. They do have a banquet staff person who takes over at this point, but I didn’t find them doing the same roles a coordinator and they were very hands off.

A coordinator would act as your liaison and handle everything for you, giving you the support you need from the beginning of the day until you both leave!. Everyone will go up to him/her to handle all the logistical aspects of your wedding, so you can enjoy every moment and be present.

Below is a detailed wedding day timeline for a 4 PM ceremony at Galway Downs in Temecula, California. This timeline is designed to help couples plan their special day at this beautiful venue:

8:00 AM - Wedding party and family members arrive at the on-site accommodations

  • Following the ceremony, guests can enjoy cocktail hour at The Paddock or The Carriage House.

  • The reception can take place in The Polo Room, a spacious and elegant area perfect for dinner and dancing.

Here are some tips to help you make the most of your Galway Downs wedding:

Opt for the Buffet Over the Plated Option

While a plated option is slightly more elegant, the buffet option at Galway Downs Temecula is significantly better in terms of food selection. It was suggested by one of the staff members that I go with this option since it provides better food options, and I am so glad we ended up doing this!

It provides 3 entrees, whereas the plated only provides 2, and It also provides 6 – 7 side dishes/salads, whereas the plated option provides 2. So it offers way more variety for guests.

All my guests kept complimenting the food. I think all of the variety made it something different than the standard chicken/fish served at every wedding. Also, guests can go for seconds if they are still hungry, which is alway a nice perk. I will say, their buffet is done in a super elegant manner, which elevates the whole Galway Downs wedding experience.

Use Lighting & Candles to Set the Mood

Galway Downs Temecula offers a range of lighting options to help you set the mood for your wedding. From twinkling lights to uplighting, lighting can make a huge impact on the ambiance of your event. They also allow candles at this venue (which is rare!), so I definitely recommend adding some to your reception tables to further add to the romantic ambiance.

Opt for a First Look

If having a lot of photos is important to you, a first look is a game changer. We had a first look for our wedding at Galway Downs Temecula and honestly, things STILL felt rushed at some points, and that was with a 35 person wedding!

A first look allows one to take couple portraits, family portraits, and bridal party portraits BEFORE the ceremony. Since there is much more time before the ceremony, this leaves ample time for photos.

Whereas when there is no first look, all these photos usually need to be taken during the cocktail hour, meaning there is significantly less time for photos.

Invest in Florals You Love

I’ve seen it time and time again, florals truly have the ability to elevate any space and transform it to the extraordinary. Floral centerpieces for the reception site are included in Galway Down’ premium package, but they are definitely on the simple side.

I’d definitely talk to the florist you get partnered with by Galway Downs about adding some extra flowers to create a beautiful ceremony arch or backdrop for the fireplace mantel behind the suite-heart table.

The Pink Bougainvillea

This is also by the carriage house, but keep in mind that it isn't always in bloom. However, during spring time it's absolutely beautiful and will add some gorgeous color to one's images.

The Meadow

Be sure to have photos taken of you both in the meadow as there always tends to be such gorgeous light there, particularly near the pampas grass. Pampas grass is a natural reflector, lending to that dreamy light!

By the Large Cactus

There is this large cactus by the carriage house that will lend to some gorgeous photos for your Galway Downs wedding.

This area has a lot of great light because it is surrounded by natural reflectors (light colored walls and floor). This means that when the sunlight hits these areas, it reflects upwards into the subject's face. This type of light is really glowy and flattering.

By the Mini Ponds/Lakes

There are also gorgeous bridges and small lakes throughout the property that would make for artistic photos, especially with the couple being a small part of a wider landscape shot.

Honestly, it’s all very seamless and saves so much energy and stress.

Before choosing Galway Downs as our venue, we were planning on going with a space that was equally gorgeous, but didn’t include anything. Everything had to be brought in, from the tables, chairs, linens, plates, etc. I very quickly realized that this was A LOT of work and required much more time planning, researching, etc

They only allow one wedding on site per day

Many of the venues we looked at had around 1 – 5 weddings on site per day. Yes, their properties were larger, but still, that’s a con because it means the couple will be confined to a specific space instead of being at liberty to utilize the entire venue.

The staff at Galway Downs Wedgewood really makes wedding planning so seamless. They are very detail oriented and will do everything possible to make the entire wedding planning experience seamless and easy for you both! Being in the wedding industry takes intense levels of organization. Imagine that your wedding venue and coordinator has 30 clients and each of those clients has an average of 10 wedding vendors. Yeah - it's a lot.

However, Galway Downs has the processes and experience to make the process go as smoothly as possible. Upon choosing them as your wedding venue, they provide a binder with helpful checklists and pretty much everything you need to know to plan your day. They also have a few appointed meetings spread out from the time you choose them as your venue up until the week of your wedding day.

In these meetings, the Galway Downs staff will talk you through all your wedding planning options. They will also help you create a wedding day timeline, guest seating arrangements, etc. They really do have you covered.

This Venue Offers So Much Natural Beauty

Galway Downs by Wedgewood Weddings is honestly one of the prettiest venues I have ever seen. I love how it has a dreamy outdoor atmosphere, provided by the ceremony site in the meadow. And the carriage house, where the reception is held is absolutely gorgeous. With high ceilings and so much natural light, you really can’t go wrong here.

The Food is Amazing

Being a wedding photographer, I have tasted A TON of wedding food...so I'd like to think I have some experience with this! :) I have to say Galway Downs Temecula, California really does provide some amazing wedding food, with the possibility of a ton of customization!

From chicken and steak, to different type of fish, to a ton of salad options, to different types of potatoes and sides, to various liquor and alcohol options, I definitely feel that they have the food department covered to provide an excellent experience for you and your guests!

Convenient Location Offering Guests A lot to Do!

Located in the heart of Temecula Wine Country, Galway Downs is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and horse farms. The venue is just a short drive from many of Temecula's best wineries, making it the perfect location for a weekend wedding celebration.

Temecula is also home to a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, golfing, and hot air balloon rides. Whether you and your guests want to spend the weekend exploring the countryside or relaxing at the spa, there's something for everyone in this charming California town.

Vendors I worked With & Recommend

Since Galway Downs includes some vendors in their packages, they have vendor partners, people they work with and will be assigned to work with you on your wedding day. These include the florist, cake baker, DJ, and the officiant (the officiant is included in their Elite package). They will usually pair you with whoever is available, but my suggestion is to ask them who their current partner vendors are and look through their websites and instagrams.

From there, see who you feel you are most drawn to and ask the Galway Downs Temecula team if those specific vendors are available on your date. If they are, they should be able to pair you with them.

Honestly, from what I have gathered, all of their vendors are great, but I personally had the following vendors for my wedding and they were fantastic :

  • Florals: Soiree Floral Design (I’ll include some photos of the flowers below). They did an amazing job. I wanted bright, joyful florals that looked like paintings and they delivered.
